How to wear chinosthis season

Friday 7 March 2020

There aren’t many occasions in life where you can’t wear chinos.

Okay, playing high-stakes poker in Monte Carlo, you might want to throw on some dress slacks, but otherwise the humble chino will get the job done. Camley, Winsor and Helston are our three big chino styles, picked out in signature stretch- cotton with

double back pockets and a zip fly. They’re versatile, stretchy and cut slim for that classic tapered leg. But this autumn we’re extending the range even further. New colours, new styles, new cuts and new ideas.

There’s another reason to get excited about new season Winsor styles. Every pair of Politix Winsor chinos now comes with its own high-quality webbed belt. It’s a fresh spin on the old pin buckle design, woven for a little more texture and personality. You don’t have to wear a belt with chinos (especially if you’re styling them with a simple tucked polo), but it’s a quick way to elevate the look.

Every bloke has a pair of navy chinos in the cupboard somewhere, but as we move into autumn and winter, you’re going to see more interesting colours.

Our classic Winsor and Helston chinos now come in tan, teal, petrol, wine, burgundy, khaki and rust. You can set these off with a paisley shirt, for that weekend-cocktail-party vibe, or dress things down with a simple tan polo. Very handy for the golf course.

Caution: valuable cargo

Yep, you heard it here first: cargo chinos are making a comeback. But these aren’t the baggy pants you were rocking in 2002. Our new cargos are slim-cut and tapered, made from high-quality stretch cotton, and come with discreet utility side pockets. You can get them in either navy or tan. The best way to style these? Think street swagger. Cuff them high and match with high-top sneakers and a crew neck tee.

Looking slim

How slim is too slim when it comes to chinos? That’s a decision every guy has to make for himself (usually based on personal taste and, let’s be frank, how often you miss Leg Day).

The classic Politix cut is what we call ‘slim tapered fit’. It’s got a mid-rise seat, so you can bend and move around easily, and tapers down from the knee to the hem. Good for dress boots, high-top sneakers or anything in between.

Some people reckon ‘dress chinos’ is an oxymoron. But you’d be surprised what some sharp tailoring and the right accessories can do. Take our Camley design: these are regular-fit, black dress chinos, made to be worn with a blazer or suit jacket. Hell, you could even do a spin on Black Tie if you wanted to – just match some jet black Camleys with a plum velvet tuxedo jacket and black loafers.
